For the move by highway, the heavier components of the RDC need to be removed. In the first picture you see engine #1 removed from car sitting on a trailer. A special dolly (engine removal tool) is used to help lower and roll the engine out from under the car. Here you can see the dolly being set up to remove engine #2 and the guys preparing to drop the engine onto the dolly. In the final picture, you see the engine rolled out from under the car. Working outside in the cold, while typical of many railroad operations, is never fun. I'm sure the guys will be happy to have the RDC inside the shop in controlled conditions for the majority of the work!
