Bellefonte Historical Railroad Society is a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting, preserving, and fostering a public appreciation of the railroading heritage of Bellefonte, Pennsylvania and beyond. There are no paid employees or administrators.
BHRS is vital to the tourism industry of Bellefonte and has brought several thousand people annually to the community of Bellefonte and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The historic rail excursions are in jeopardy if the funds for restoration cannot be raised. Donations are greatly appreciated!
We are always in need of members willing to "work on the railroad." We need volunteers to be our engineers, conductors, maintenance-of-way personnel, rolling stock maintenance personnel, and administrative jobs like marketing and fundraising.
BHRS excursions have historicaly utilized publicly-owned track that is shared by five short-line railroads comprising Susquehanna Economic Development Association-Council of Governments Joint Rail Authority (SEDA-COG JRA). SEDA-COG JRA Meetings are open to the public.
